Winter

November 2nd, 2008 by Drake

Hello everyone again, and welcome to winter. This post was meant for last weekend, but I realised that winter doesn’t start for another week for the rest of the world. If you still don’t know what I’m talking about, I mean Daylight Savings Time. In the UK, we went back a week ago, back to good old GMT from BST. But for the rest of the world, they were still on whatever they call their respective daylight savings times. Now, normally I wouldn’t notice anything like this, being constrained to the UK and not dealing with people from other timezones in-depth enough to notice anything.

But this year (more this time, nothing happened when the clocks went forwards) I was meant to be involved in a aim roleplaying thing, courtesy of EPIC, a forum I recently joined. Now, it’s run by americans, and most of them are at GMT-5 and so that the event was at a decent time for everyone, it was put at 2pm local time, which is normally 7pm. Now, I couldn’t make it to yesterdays event due to a fireworks show, But due to bad weather, I never went. Instead we went to see a Quantum of Solace. So, I signed into the chatroom at about 6:30pm, knowing we were going to leave for about 7. I though may as well say hello. Stupid me, due to the errors in DST in the UK, the event was at 6pm my time. I could have had an hour of roleplaying. Or at least I could have it my pc was working.

On friday, I started the upgrade process on my dads ubuntu box. I honestly couldn’t wait to try ubuntu 8.10 with it’s brand new GNOME and a new dark theme. Try to boot it saturday morning and it loads once, wants to restart to make some changes, then won’t load. You get to the login screen and can enter in your username and password, but it gets a little further, not to the little welcome sound though, and stops.

As you can imagine, I was sweating bullets, it’s a) not my pc, and b) I had homework I needed to do. So, a quick trip to my mums was in order to pick up a new install cd. But suprise suprise, I didn’t have one. 30 minutes and 694mb later I had both a 7.10 and an 8.04 install CD. You may be wondering why not get the 8.10 cd. Well, 8.10 killed the pc first time, so I’m leaving it for a while until I can find out what went so horribly wrong.

And my last two points, I now administer a roleplaying forum over at http://shinigami.blgo-box.co.uk for a friend. Go check it out, you just might like it. And finally, I am strapped for cash, so I am considering doing commisions. But before I go and say yes I am doing them, would anyone actually want one?

Well, see you next time?

Blue about the house of blue

October 22nd, 2008 by Drake

Well hello everyone, sorry for the impromptu hiatus, but I’ve been busy. Recently, I have been working on a campaign for the MSF High, the roleplaying game that currently owns my soul (although my current workload piled on top of other things means that I am currently ‘away’). That is about half done, or possibly a third, depending on how long I make the second half of the campaign. More on this will be released when the campaign is released.

So, on to the main reason for this post is the end of one of my favroiute webcomics, Aoi House. As of when I write this, it is reaching it’s final arc. But prior to this it went through another arc called the silent hill arc. There were a few people who said that it seemed to have been written by another person. Now, I know where they are coming from, but I don’t think it’s that extreme. And as Adam Arnold (the writer) said, in the time that he was writing the second season of aoi house, he had gone off anime, and thus in the second season, there were more movie references than anime  zreferences. Now I am sad that it had to end but if I had the choice of letting it end now or continuing it as it is now, I would much rather see it go out now.

And finally, a question for you all, if you could send a message to yourself at any point in time, when would you and what would you say?

See you next time.

Poetry

October 8th, 2008 by Drake

Well hello folks, I’m back again after being swanped with stuff and not nearly enought time to write a blog post. So, tomorrow is National Poetry Day (according to my english teacher) so I though I’d do a post on poetry. Especally since I missed Talk Like a Pirate Day I have to post for at least one of these strange holidays. So, as it is the national day of poetry, I’ve decided that I should perhaps post links to my favorite poems that I’ve found on the internet.

So First, a peice called ‘I’m not an artist‘ by ~syncrasy on dA (all of these are on devaintART). I can’t actually put the poem here since I haven’t got permission to, but I feel free to go read it through the link.

My second choice comes with a warning, as the poet has market it “Mature”. So I present ‘Sweet Nothingness‘ by ~kar-ri-i-r-l (who must have hell trying to log in on any other pc than her own with that username).

Now for an artist I have tremendous respect for, ~kamiana and my second favourite poem of all time: “Tumbled Down The Stairs Again” and the last line is particularly poiniant to me:

it seems you fall head over heels out of love too.

And lastly, she also holds my most favourite poem of all time as well. “It’s Just Part Of The Process” which I think everyone should read.

Well, thanks for reading, and come back soon please.

Winter’s Here

October 1st, 2008 by Drake

Hello everyone, and welcome to winter. Recently, I noticed that winter is well and truly upon us. How do I know? It’s cold, and I’m taking 4-6 paracetamol per day to keep my cold at bay. Also, my art output is increasing exponentially. Then again, so is my procrastination level, more art means less work. It’s a fair trade. If you want to see my art, just stop by my deviantART account.

In other news, I still haven’t sorted out all my Chibicon stuff. The video I took of the sumo still needs uploading, my bag still has pocky wrappers in it, the books I bought need to go on my shelf et cetera. Also, I just bought (and received) a copy of MSF High, the roleplaying rule book, so expect a lot more fan art for it (I’ve already done two peices).

Just a short post. Just before I go, dA has 99 524 023 deviations as of 7:42PM. Where are they keeping all of this?

A Little Non-Plussed

September 14th, 2008 by Drake

Hello everyone. Today’s post is about school. Most people in the UK will have heard of the EMA or the Education Maintence Allowance or something like that. In about a year, I will (hopefully) become elegable for it. Upto £30 a week, just for going to school. But, only if my parents earn under £30′000. Yesterday, I was having a debate about this with a friend and we thought it should not be based on how much your parents earn, my friend had well of parents, thus disqualifing him from ema, but he himself was in a perminant state of broke-ness, but on how well you are doing at school. Unfortunatly, this would probably mean more tests, but why not just base it on actual work and not more exams. My friend then went on to say that people are getting univerity bursaries (loans you don’t pay back) based on how much their parents earn. But most families who earn over £30′000 won’t have stupid amounts of cash that they give to their teenagers, Well rant over. See you next time.

Endgame in 5 Days?

September 5th, 2008 by Drake

Ok, recently, I have been very frustrated. There has been a rumour going around school about the LHC or Large Haridon Collider. It is a large tunnel under the alps. They are going to be doing an experiment to recreate what happens when cosmic rays hit the earth or other objects. The rumour consists of a theory that this experiment will create a black hole that will eat up the planet. And people are saying that because I was attempting to tell people it wasn’t going to happen, I started it. I really don’t want to be the person behind another doomsday theory.

So, I found the page on CERN (the lab that’s doing the experiment) that holds their saftey information. Go to tinyurl.com/lhcpage. Read it. THERE IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT!

Good day. And I’ll see you on thursday or I’ll eat my hat.

School Time

August 30th, 2008 by Drake

So, the end of the summer has come at last and students everywhere are getting back to work. Or at least they should be. So of the jammy gits don’t go back ’til next week. So today, I am going to be covering what is going on now, and what will be going on in the next 20 weeks of school.

First things first, SCHOOL. Obviously, due to my age and aformentioned back-to-school-i-ness, I am back at school now. Only time will tell if this year will be any good, but if Friday was any measure, it won’t. But thankfully, Friday is not a measure. Coming up are several exams, and my Media Studies GCSE Final Project. And for that, I have set up a special blog, well specially. It’s not quite ready, but the blog will also cover school more closely.

Second, also school. I have gotten TOR running at school, meaning I have a wider array of sites I can access whilst I am not working (and I can search for essex). This means I can also visit MSF High at lunch too. About MSF High, there is an upcoming tournament for their card game. Detail should be released soon, but we’re not quite sure yet.

Third, Chibicon. Chibicon is an Anime Convention in Derby. It is in September. It is sold out. I am going to buy my ticket for next years soon too. Now I shall stop before I start ranting about how much I am looking forward to it. chibicon.co.uk

See you next time.
