Winter
Hello everyone again, and welcome to winter. This post was meant for last weekend, but I realised that winter doesn’t start for another week for the rest of the world. If you still don’t know what I’m talking about, I mean Daylight Savings Time. In the UK, we went back a week ago, back to good old GMT from BST. But for the rest of the world, they were still on whatever they call their respective daylight savings times. Now, normally I wouldn’t notice anything like this, being constrained to the UK and not dealing with people from other timezones in-depth enough to notice anything.
But this year (more this time, nothing happened when the clocks went forwards) I was meant to be involved in a aim roleplaying thing, courtesy of EPIC, a forum I recently joined. Now, it’s run by americans, and most of them are at GMT-5 and so that the event was at a decent time for everyone, it was put at 2pm local time, which is normally 7pm. Now, I couldn’t make it to yesterdays event due to a fireworks show, But due to bad weather, I never went. Instead we went to see a Quantum of Solace. So, I signed into the chatroom at about 6:30pm, knowing we were going to leave for about 7. I though may as well say hello. Stupid me, due to the errors in DST in the UK, the event was at 6pm my time. I could have had an hour of roleplaying. Or at least I could have it my pc was working.
On friday, I started the upgrade process on my dads ubuntu box. I honestly couldn’t wait to try ubuntu 8.10 with it’s brand new GNOME and a new dark theme. Try to boot it saturday morning and it loads once, wants to restart to make some changes, then won’t load. You get to the login screen and can enter in your username and password, but it gets a little further, not to the little welcome sound though, and stops.
As you can imagine, I was sweating bullets, it’s a) not my pc, and b) I had homework I needed to do. So, a quick trip to my mums was in order to pick up a new install cd. But suprise suprise, I didn’t have one. 30 minutes and 694mb later I had both a 7.10 and an 8.04 install CD. You may be wondering why not get the 8.10 cd. Well, 8.10 killed the pc first time, so I’m leaving it for a while until I can find out what went so horribly wrong.
And my last two points, I now administer a roleplaying forum over at http://shinigami.blgo-box.co.uk for a friend. Go check it out, you just might like it. And finally, I am strapped for cash, so I am considering doing commisions. But before I go and say yes I am doing them, would anyone actually want one?
Well, see you next time?
